HOLLY JACKSON

"A  Good Girl's Guide To Murder" by Holly Jackson has so far been one of the best crime-investigation novels that I laid my hands on, especially since it's about a female student detective who just loves to go over with a fine tooth comb. And oh boy! I do really admire Pip and I became an ardent devotee of hers, to be frank.

The series is a trilogy , the first one being "A Good Girl's Guide To Murder" itself. It follows around how Pip(Pippa Fitz-Amobi) overturns every stone to get to the roots of the Andie Bell murder case, who was "allegedly" murdered by her boyfriend ,Sal Sing. Pip is accompanied by Sal's brother , Ravi, throughout the investigation, who has his own share of nicknames for her including the most famous 'sarge' .Pip believes with all her heart that Sal is innocent. And the truth? No spoilers! Find it out yourself folks! And don't get me started on the chemistry between Pip and Ravi.

Here are some favorite quotes :

"Real men wear floral when trespassing"

"The people you love weren’t algebra: to be calculated, subtracted, or held at arm’s length across a decimal point."

"Your efficiency offends me."

"What's wrong with me? ... I might seem like the ideal student: homework always in early, every extra credit and extra curricular I can get my hands on, the good girl and the high achiever. But I realized something just now: it's not ambition, not entirely. It's fear. Because I don't know who I am when I'm not working, when I'm not focused on or totally consumed by a task. Who am I between the projects and the assignments, when there's nothing to do? I haven't found her yet and it scares me. Maybe that's why, for my senior capstone project this year, I decided to solve a murder."

The second in the series is "Good Girl, Bad Blood". Pip thinks that her investigation days are over. But are they? Of course! No! This time she again delves deep into the disappearance of her friend Connor's brother, Jamie Reynolds. From an efficient cat fisher(honey trap) to a former child convict , the plot has it all. From doubting in herself at times to showing them who the real boss is , Pip just rocks at being Pip.

Here are some favorite quotes :

"Some people are pretty good at hiding who they really are."

"And, finally, to all the girls who’ve ever been doubted or not believed. I know how that feels. These books are for all of you."

"But justice doesn’t exist, and the truth doesn’t matter, not in the real world."

"What do you do when the things that are supposed to protect you, fail you like that"

"I think we all get to decide what good and bad and right and wrong mean to us, not what we’re told to accept."

And now comes the last part, "A Good As Dead" . I just have one question for Holly : But Why?! She literally ruined my role model Pip in the last book. All along she was the " perfect" student for me and then here she is having her own burner phones and buying drugs. Oh whyyyyy?! *sobs* . So basically the third book surrounds around the stalker that Pip has. From chalk drawn stick people creeping closer to her  house day by day and dead and 'headless' pigeons to anonymous letters , death threats on Twitter and mail, it all comes back to the same question : "Who will look for you when you’re the one who disappears?". The plot thickens the most here. Will Pip be able to find her stalker/ most-probably-going-to-be-her-killer . Once again she delves deeper into secrets so that she doesn't end up dead herself. I think that the quote "I'm not sure I'm the good girl i once thought i was . I've lost her along the way"  from the first book deeply resonates with the Pip in this particular book.

Here are some favorite books :

"Microwave him."  [ This is an epic line by Ravi Singh. Read the book to get what I mean]

"if it's a choice between me and you, i choose you"

"You're my person. My little one. My Sarge. And I'm supposed to protect you."

"Our dad killed your boyfriend's older brother and kept a girl in his loft for five years. You have yourself two experts at acting normal."

"Hey Sarge, remember me?"

I also recommend watching the namesake series of the first book on Netflix, which, from reviews, seems to be as good as the book. In addition, I recommend reading " Kill Joy" by the same author, which is a prequel to this series which I have not read yet but seems to be a good book as well.

Thanks for your time dear patient reader who read the whole thing and reached till the end!!
