The Empyrean Series #1
Fourth Wing And Iron Flame
Rebecca Yarros
This books belong to the Empyrean series by Rebecca Yarros. The first two books Fourth Wing and Iron Flame came out in 2023 and it was followed by the third book Onyx Storm in 2025, which I am yet to read. The series is set to have two more books which are currently in development.
Now moving on to the first book, Fourth Wing, the narration is in first person mostly from the POV of our protagonist Violet Sorrengail, daughter of a powerful General mother and a dead Scribe father. The story begins with her getting into the Rider Quadrant on her mother's whim instead of her dream Scribe Quadrant at the Basgiath War College. The story gradually follows around her life(survival) at the college, looming secrets and tensions with Xaden Riorson. Oh boy! I don't even know how to describe what's going on between them and readers be warned, this book has a lot of spice...like a lot of spice, for me. So much spice that I had to skip pages whenever they started to get romantic. I hope you get what I mean.
I don't know whether that is really good and this is one of the first spice books I read. And to be honest, I don't think that I would love this much spice in the books I read for now because I am really unfamiliar with this trope. But the rest of the story really got me addicted and I decided to continue reading the series, I would recommend the book to anyone who loves fantasy and a looot of spice. Give it a 8/10.
The second book , Iron Flame delves deeper into venin , gryphons and wyvern .Those who don't understand all these you will.....once you read the book. Basically these are all mythical creatures which the officials of Navarre(the fictional nation where this whole story is set) are hiding . Now, all I can say that cracks appear in both the nation and in Xaden and Violet's relationship. There is an even higher amount of spice than the first book and a lot more familial , emotional and sexual tension revolving around the characters . Giving it an 8.5/10 for its explicit and graphic representation of emotion and much more. Again, I would recommend it by just saying that I skipped even more pages.
I am pretty sure that fantasy fiction lovers and romance lovers would love the book. I am excited to read Onyx Storm ,of course, except for the violent romance bit.
Thank you for reading!
Bisous!
