Today, I am going to compare 3 antagonists from 3 different books. And they are :Nicollo Machiaveeli and John Dee, both from “The secrets of the immortal Nicholas Flamel" series and Voldemort from The "Harry Potter" series.
Let’s start with John Dee.John Dee has been an enemy of Nicholas and Perenelle Flamel since their time in the Sixteenth Century. He had always chased them to get the Codex for his masters, Isis and Osiris, but he didn't get it until they had finally found the legendary twins, Josh and Sophie Newman, they had searched for all the time.Working together with Niccolò Machiavelli he succeeded in bringing Josh on his side, but after being declared "utalga", he turned against his masters. He, from my point of view, is a cunning man, who can perceive people, to think in a way in which he seems good to them.
Now comes Niccolo Machiavelli. In this book, he's shown as an equally powerful magician to Dr. John Dee. Additionally, he is often referred to as being 'the most dangerous man in Europe and even Nicholas Flamel claims him to be infinitely more of a threat than Dee is, because of the fact that he is a master manipulator and can control his emotions easily. He keeps information about the elders, next generation and the existence of this database, with information that is shown to be quite extensive. For example, when Aten requires information about those living in London, he is easily able to find out which inhabitant of London has knowledge of the elemental magics and the likeliness that they would help Flamel to train the twins. Niccollo appears a little more human than Dee to me with respect and sympathy which Dee lacks. Billy is the one who makes Niccolo feel more human at the end of the 4 th book.
And then, The most gruesome of all these antagonists is Voldemort. A mere orphan who turned into a selfish, gruesome and cruel villain because of the influence of dark magic. His muggle father made him even worse, who left him even before his birth because he came to know that Voldemort’s mother was a witch. At first his only aim was to fulfill the wish of Salazar Slytherin, the founder of the Slytherin House, to banish all the muggle born from Hogwarts. But slowly it turned into a desire to rule the whole wizarding world and ended up changing his appearance, founding the death eaters and finally overpassing fellow dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald.
Compared to the earlier antagonists, I find Voldemort the most suitable for the title of The Great Antagonist. I would rate him a 10 out of 10. The whole Harry Potter series existed because of him and it would have been incomplete without him.
